🌊 Better Farms, Better Fish with SS 670
The Fish Farmer is proud to be featured by Nanyang Polytechnic for our adoption of SS 670:2021 – Specification for Good Aquaculture Practices, a national standard developed by the Singapore Standards Council and supported by Enterprise Singapore.
Since implementing SS 670 in 2022, we have strengthened our farm management systems and enhanced the way we monitor and manage our aquaculture operations — all with the goal of delivering better, safer, and more sustainable fish to our customers.
🐟 About The Fish Farmer
Founded in 2007 under the Metropolitan Fishery Group, The Fish Farmer is committed to sustainable aquaculture practices that prioritise both product quality and environmental responsibility.
Our farms, located in Lim Chu Kang and Changi, rear fish in caged long nets along sheltered coastal waters. We adopt traditional farming techniques while embracing modern improvements, including:
- Use of renewable solar energy
- Avoidance of growth enhancers
- Over 70% of farm structures built from reused materials
These efforts reflect our long-term commitment to responsible and sustainable fish farming in Singapore.
⚙️ Strengthening Farm Management with SS 670
The adoption of SS 670 has enabled us to build a more robust and structured farm management system. Key improvements include:
✅ Improved Record-Keeping & Traceability
Previously, inconsistencies in supplier information made tracking more challenging. With SS 670, we implemented a structured feed management system requiring standardised data from suppliers.
Today, we can trace any issue — from fish health concerns to feed sources — quickly and accurately, ensuring greater transparency and accountability across our operations.
✅ Better Fish Health & Food Safety
By aligning with SS 670 guidelines, we have enhanced monitoring across our farming processes, leading to healthier fish and improved food safety standards.
✅ Increased Operational Efficiency
Standardised processes and better data sharing among our farming teams have improved overall productivity and coordination.
📈 Meeting Market Demand & Building Trust
Consumers today are increasingly conscious of sustainability, food safety, and ethical sourcing. Our adoption of SS 670 demonstrates our commitment to meeting these expectations.
As a result, we have seen stronger market confidence and increased demand for our locally farmed fish.
The standard also strengthens our foundation as we work towards internationally recognised certifications, such as:
- Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Farm Standards
- Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) Certification
- ISO 22000 Food Safety Management
🌱 Our Commitment to Sustainable Aquaculture
At The Fish Farmer, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. From environmentally responsible farming methods to continuous improvement through recognised standards, we are dedicated to:
- Protecting marine ecosystems
- Ensuring high-quality and safe seafood
- Supporting Singapore’s local food resilience
- Advancing towards global aquaculture benchmarks
